Like the rest of the Bahamas, Great Harbour Cay and the rest of the Berry Islands will see fishing activity definitely pick up a notch or two during November as the waters start to cool from the increase in the number of cool and cold fronts moving off the U.S. east coast. With the passing fronts, the northeast and northwest winds can kick up to 20 plus knots making things a little sporty. The decrease in water temperature will cause the appearance of wahoo and tuna in good numbers. Wahoo showed up early this season so it is off to a good start. On the bottom, anglers should be catching plenty of yellowtail snapper. For the wahoo and tuna, standard skirted ballyhoo and a wide assortment of artificial lures will work well. The fish will be big so bring out the 50 pound trolling rods or an electric reel. The fish should be concentrated near the drop off north of the island in 190 to 500 feet of water. Inshore, the bonefishing will be fantastic. The cooler water will allow the bones to be spending more time on the flats. Also, you will find you’re your share of permit and barracuda. Good baits for bottom fishing are shrimp and calamari. We look forward to seeing you in the Berry Islands soon.
