For those wishing to dive with a limited number of divers, early December is the perfect time to head to Abaco. We are fortunate that Great Abaco offers a variety of diving, so with the unpredictable weather that winter can bring, there are several diving options available. Should a front blow through and windy weather prevent us from traveling to the reef by boat, there is drift and blue hole diving accessible by land transportation, which offers divers a diverse environment. With clear, dry and sunny December skies, air temperatures range from a cool 67 degrees at night to warm 79 degrees during the day. Water temperature also cools and averages 76 degrees so a 3 mm wetsuit is suggested. The cooler water temperature, below the warmth needed for algae growth, brings amazingly clear water. This time of year provides for frequent encounters with eagle rays, sharks and turtles and, of course, our unique coral formations provide the perfect location to observe the abundance of tropical fish. According to the Farmers’ Almanac, the Full Cold Moon is on Friday, December 28 at 5:22:40 a.m. EST. Night diving by the light of a full moon is a dive to experience at least once in a lifetime. The underwater world transforms as sea life not normally seen during the day venture out into the darkness.

Come and join us in Abaco for a wonderful month of festive holiday celebration and diving. We look forward to seeing you soon!
