The windy winter cold fronts that normally pass through Abaco have been milder this year, which have provided us with more days of calm seas to enjoy diving offshore. However, we keep in mind that there are dive sites accessible by land transportation— coastal drift diving and inland blue holes—if or when those windy days arrive.
With the relatively calm seas and little current, outstanding 100 foot plus visibility and lots of big critters, like sharks, spotted eagle rays, grouper and turtles, February is a great time to visit Abaco, especially if you enjoy small groups. Daily air temperature ranges from a cool 65 degrees at night to a balmy 78 degrees during the day. Water temperature is averaging 73 degrees. We are looking forward to spring when water temperatures will begin rising and there will be no need for cumbersome wetsuits. The full moon occurs on Tuesday, February 7. The full moons always provide brilliant light for night diving.
For those of you seeking a quiet getaway, February is the time to visit Abaco before the spring break and summer crowds arrive. When not diving or snorkeling, there are many other activities to consider—renting a car for a day to explore Great Abaco, catching a ferry to one of the offshore cays—or doing nothing but simply relaxing in a hammock and reading your favorite book. There is plenty to do or not do. We look forward to seeing you ‘on island’ soon.
