May is typically our favorite month. The season started early for us this year, perhaps because the weather has been so amazing. The atmosphere on Abaco is festive, with many familiar faces along with new ones who have finally discovered our Out-Island and the surrounding cays. The predictable warmer waters of May have arrived with temperature averaging 81 degrees. As the calendar advances closer to summer, rain chances will increase bringing the occasional thunder boomer. Visibility seems endless, allowing the sunlight to reflect the incredible colors of the reef or dance off the white sand sea floor. Sea life abounds and diving is diverse. Whether you prefer to hover around a coral head and watch the darting back and forth of juvenile tropical fish, dive along the mini-wall and look for sharks, turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels and crawfish (lobster), or swim though coral-arched alley-ways guided by friendly grouper, the reef system of Abaco will meet or exceed your diving and snorkeling expectations. Divers, snorkelers, friends and family can all enjoy the daily excursions together. In many locations, the reef rises to the surface, so snorkelers can watch from above while divers explore below.
If you’re not a certified diver, inquire about participating in a resort lesson that will allow you to dive with an instructor. If you are certified, but it has been over a year since your last dive and you’ve grown a few barnacles, we encourage you to take a refresher course before diving again. It will not only benefit you, but fellow divers will appreciate it. You will be more comfortable and confident getting back in the water again, and will be able to enjoy the magnificent underwater world we have to offer.
‘Sea’ you soon!
