July is here and we are in the height of summertime in Abaco. Many of our guests who arrived intending to only snorkel, end up diving. They did not realize that by taking a short resort lesson in the pool and learning basic SCUBA skills, they could buddy dive with an instructor. Many of them continue training to become certified PADI divers. We are fortunate to be in a spot that offers more than one option to enjoy the water. With the diverse reef system and mountainous coral rising to the surface in many locations along Abaco, both divers and snorkelers can share the same vessel. No need for family and friends to be separated by different levels of ability. Thus far this year, we have outstanding diving conditions. The reefs along the world’s third longest barrier reef are teeming with an assorted array of fish ranging from brightly colored tropical, grouper and snapper to Caribbean reef and nurse sharks. Silversides fill the swim throughs and caverns. Turtles mosey about and lobster and moray eels peek out from the crevices in the reef. July means clear water, warm temperatures and calm seas. Visibility averages 100 plus feet. Air temperature ranges from 75 to 87 degrees and water temperature is averaging 85 degrees. Ocean current is virtually non-existent.

If a night dive is on your ‘bucket list’, diving by the light of a full moon is one you should experience while on-island, especially with the glow from the bioluminescence in the water.

So, for a great summer get-away, come visit us in Abaco and see what gracious Bahamian hospitality is all about!
