June is a great month for bonefishing. This time of year the bones appear in more schools, comprised of both big and small fish. Anglers will see a lot more mudding going on, which means the bonefish are digging up the bottom looking for crabs and shrimp to eat. The summer months serve up great fishing and present more opportunity to catch a bonefish. Also on the flats at this time of year, there will be mutton snappers, barracudas and sharks, as well as the occasional permit or tarpon.

Because summers days can be hot temperature-wise, we recommend going out as early as possible to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures.

For tackle, we recommend an 8-weight fly rod with a 10-pound leader, at least 10 feet long, outfitted with #6 flies, light pink or medium to light tan colors. With a lighter tackle spin rod, try a 6 foot rod with 10-pound test line, and either artificial or live bait.

We also offer snorkeling trips and bottom fishing. So if you want to mix your day up, do some fishing the first half of the day and cool down with snorkeling over beautiful reefs the rest of the day, all it takes is a quick phone call or email.
