Island Boy Tackle and Marine’s Kevin Sawyer says “Hurricane Sandy cast a pallor for several weeks after passing the Abacos. The offshore waters were somewhat turbid and dirty and offshore fishing significantly slowed. However, after about ten days of calmer winds the water has cleared. Despite the water conditions, there was no doubt that wahoo season arrived and it will only get better and better!”

Kevin also reported that according to Local Boy Charters, Capt. Justin Russell, yellowfin tuna are still biting. Recently with four rods out, Capt. Russell had a quadruple hit. Kevin also shared mahi-mahi catches are being reported as well. For bottom fishing enthusiasts, mutton snapper and strawberry grouper are being caught in good numbers. Best baits are a variety of cut bait including squid. Chumming will produce your share of yellowtail snapper.

Chris Higgs, Harbour Master at Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour reports a similar overall picture but has also seen some blackfin catches. All in all, with water conditions continuing to improve into December, the Abacos will be a great destination for some great angling.
