For those anglers heading to the Abacos in January, the fishing will not disappoint! The wahoo bite has been consistently strong and is predicted to continue through January. No monsters yet but plenty in the 15 to 30 pound range and a few so far to 50 to 60 pounds. Dolphin continue to show strongly and consistently with most fishing in the 8 to 15 pound range. For tuna fans, we will still be catching some blackfin and yellowfin. Bottom fishing has been and should continue to bring some tasty meals to the dinner table. Plenty of mutton and yellowtail snapper are covering the reefs. For deep dropping enthusiasts look for strawberry grouper as well as red and silk snapper to fill your fish box. For wahoo, standard Islander Lures in dark colors along with naked ballyhoo have been working well. Some anglers prefer to troll a 6 inch cedar plug. As is typical for the month of January and most winter months, fronts passing through the Northern Bahamas can make the offshore scene somewhat sporty. Nevertheless, the fantastic fishing is well worth the effort. Don’t forget to stop in the shop when in Marsh Harbour. We have everything you need.
