Abaco Offshore Fishing Forecast – June 2012

Capt. Blaine Sweeting and his team with two yellowfin and a kingfish scored during the Schooner Bay Spring Fest Rodeo. Congratulations Capt. Sweeting! Photo credit: Schooner Bay

May has been a great month in South Abaco with the winds laying down for extended periods making Hole in the Wall and points north more accessible. Yellowfin have been the order of the day with the average catch in the 30 to 40 pound range. Most anglers are “chunking” and finding the benefits very good! The balance as always is you may have to share a few of your catch with our healthy South Abaco shark population. The billfish bite has been fantastic and should continue through June. Blues, whites and sails have been strong this year as witnessed by the participants in the recently held Custom Boat Shootout. Capt. Blaine Sweeting and team fished the Schooner Bay Spring Fest Rodeo and took home the prize for largest tuna and kingfish. Other good reports of snapper and grouper along the edge in 100 feet plus. We expect more of the same through June as the water continues to warm up! Bottom fishing should be a great diversion if you wish to fill the coolers with snapper and grouper. June is a great month for wetting a line in the Abacos.
