There is a reason that the Bahamas Billfish Championship and so many other great tournaments are held in Abaco during May and June: billfish, billfish and more billfish! The recent Custom Shootout had a total of 91 billfish caught, with 22 blue marlin, 45 white marlin and 24 sailfish being release. So if billfish are your âthingâ Abaco in June is the place to be! Abaco will be serving as host to five major billfish tournaments during the month.
According to Treasure Cay Resort and Marina Manager Cliff Bootle, âWhile wahoo have all but disappeared, anglers can look for an abundance of good size yellowfin tuna with mahi-mahi in the mix as well.â Cliff says the reef fishing should be great as well, with plenty of mutton snapper, yellowtail and grouper.
From South Abaco, June Russell from Blackfly Lodge at Schooner Bay reports, âThere are still some wahoo to be found âdown southâ, but the yellowfin tuna bite has been fantastic. Just look for the birds.â June said there has been tons of dolphin as well. This is a great time of year to be fishing Abaco waters.
So, as The Gully Roosters say, âLetâs go, go, go to Abaco!â
