Looking at September, we often wonder about the ability to get out there and do some great fishing because of the threat of hurricanes. I however, will take my chances and spend as many days on the water as possible!

This month I would like to focus on the “Deep Drop” style of fishing. It has proven to be a no fail way to bring in a great haul for the day. I suggest a Krystal Deep Drop reel or a Lindgren Pitman “Wishbone Reel” with about 130 to 200 pound test braid, depending on what you are targeting. The best baits to hang on your hooks are squid, pilchers and filet of a small snapper.

Head out off the edge to about 1200 feet of water. At that depth you will catch queen snapper, misty grouper, Warsaw grouper and if you’re lucky, a snowy grouper. Heading back into shallower water at about 750 feet you will find silky snappers and blackwing snappers. If you don’t have any deep drop rods, you can get into about 200 feet and catch black snapper.

Tight Lines my friends.
