King mackerel were caught but not in big numbers. The Fall kings should arrive in September and they are usually larger than the Summer kings. Trolling #2 and #3 spoons behind the same size planers are usually effective. Drifting with live bait or whole cigar minnows is a good method to catch nice size king mackerel. Usually September signals the end of another long and hot summer along the gulf beaches and a return of better fishing as the water temperatures begin to decline some. The days are noticeably shorter as we approach the equinox and usually not nearly as hot or wet as in the preceding months.Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
eptember is a transition month for the fish in the Bay, and they'll be in their usual places for the most part, but in less numbers from where you have been catching them.Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
Well folks, school has started and football is in the air. The fishing is still going strong. The rains have not managed to mess up the fishing too much. The trout are finished their spawning and are on the move up the bay feeding on the shrimp working their way up the rivers.Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
What time is it? Its trout transition time at Dauphin Island... or very close to it. As the weather begins to cool, the trout will begin their migration and will move up the bay out of the lower bay and into the marsh areas and deeper river systems at the Mobile River Delta where they will winter. Wow, can it rain any more. We have had rain almost every day since the end of June. The conditions in the bay and the delta are terrible with too much fresh water, and about 3 to 4 inches of visibility. The fishing has also been terrible. If you plan to try to catch some redfish or trout the coast is the place to be. Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
You can smell the salt rising on the air. The waves are breaking slightly against the boats in the harbor, you lookout across to the islands thinking quietly to yourself I'll be out there fishing soon. Don't let this moment in time pass. Pick up the phone call a captain. Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
Kayaks are easy to handle and transport. You can launch almost anywhere you can park. We are fortunate to live a short drive from some great fishing in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. So get out and learn some new areas. Alabama Gulf Coast EditionAug 27th, 2013
For those of us living in coastal Alabama, the Dog River watershed is a prime example. After one of Mobile’s typical heavy summer rains, the scenic river is turned into a trash pile of floating debris that eventually makes its way to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
