We’ve all used or at least heard the surfer’s refrain “pray for surf,” well those prayers are needed this month in the Bahamas (and lots of other places on the U.S. East Coast). Barring tropical storm activity (and it’s a definite possibility in July), the swell remains small this month. Many breaks that require a decent size swell will quit working this month, so target islands and reefs that are known to focus a two to three foot swell. Alternatively, if you have the luxury, wait until an early-season tropical storm churns into our swell window and makes a surgical strike. With American and Bahamian Independence days only a week apart in the beginning of this month, why not come and enjoy a weeklong celebration of fireworks and parties Bahamian style. The Sea of Abaco fills up with visiting yachts as do places like Harbour Island, George Town and Nassau. Enjoy freedom in the surf and then celebrate freedom on land. And who knows, those prayers may well be answered.
