May, May, May; it can be My, My, My! Or just ho-ho-hum…

Recent Mays have yielded big swells and flat spells. After a cool, windy spring, we expect to shift gears into a more summer-like pattern this month. Although this winter, and now spring, have shown that things are a bit different this year. Early April delivered a big, clean, multi-day wave event to many islands, and May is capable of doing just the same. The Facebook feed lit up from Hope Town to Hatchet Bay with surfed-out status updates. With a rainy spring, expect our oh-so-friendly island mosquitoes and no-seeums to introduce themselves fully, especially to our visitors. Think about socks and long pants when exploring the island.

A light, easterly wind prevails this month, and water temperatures will most likely climb into the mid-80’s for most islands by the end of the month. Get your sun block on early, and rub in well. Remember, good for you, not great for the reef below.
