Bahamas Surf Forecast – September 2012

As this report goes to press, meteorologists have named the ninth tropical system of the season – Isaac – and surfers in the Bahama chain are licking their lips.

Anyone who watches The Weather Channel can tell you the middle of September is the peak of hurricane season and that means swell aplenty in our islands. Our islands have seen above average amounts of rain and water temperatures remain slightly below average and many locals say that means we won’t have a busy storm season. All we can really do is get prepared, wait, and see. Hurricane and tropical storm system generally send east and north swells – at least those are the most sizeable – and provide a good opportunity to check that ‘mysto’ spot you were wondering about or fickle reef breaks that need size to break at all. And, don’t forget about your usual go-to spots like Abaco, Eleuthera, Rum Cay and Nassau. They’re going to be working, count on it.

Be safe and be prepared this tropical storm season.
