[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f you’ve noticed the surfers in your neck of the woods starting to lick their chops, doing push-ups and pull-ups and pulling up a lot of online radar images, it means one thing, September’s here! The longest month to spell is generally the fall month for swell. Surf courtesy of hurricanes with a few north swells from early-arriving North American cold fronts to spice it up further. As of the second week of August, all we had to show for a slow storm season so far was a day-and-a-half of decent surf from Hurricane Bertha, which as of press time continued to spin off Norway. Somebody’s catching some cold water swell up there! Surfing in much warmer Bahamian waters this month you can leave the wetsuit at home, but do bring the bigger board, something that will help you scratch in to some solid 6-foot plus waves. Don’t expect crowds, or in fact much going on this month in the archipelago. It is the beginning of ‘slow season’ here and especially in the family islands you’ll be “your own vibe” as they say. The locals are friendly but do respect them and respect our waters and reefs. I’ll end with a repeat eco-reminder: remember sunscreen on at least 30 minutes before getting in the water. Better for your skin, better for the coral living below you. Until next time enjoy our wild Bahamas!
