Bimini Dive Forecast – March 2012

Spring arrives back to Bimini in March. We enjoy a rapid warming trend, both above and below the water, and the island enjoys a light to moderate volume of visitors, making it fun to share your dives with others on uncrowded boats. Spring Break brings a fun crowd, so there are many options for music, dancing, and bonfires around the island all month.

The Mini-Strip is a virtually unknown little dive site just out of view underwater from its big sister, The Strip, and just as the name suggests, the Mini-Strip is a straight line of coral. It’s no wider than 10 feet, no taller than 6 feet, and no longer than 200 feet, all in 40 feet of clear calm water, just off the center of North Bimini. Recently, a mooring was placed on this smaller, lesser visited site, and we were very pleasantly surprised on our recent visit. Whenever you allow a site to rest and experience less traffic, the reef has a chance to revitalize itself. Upon returning, you will find new coral growth, new schools of fish, and you will likely see some things for the very first time. So on your next trip to Bimini, check out the Mini-Strip for something a bit different.
