Now there can be no doubt that the Islands of the Bahamas has some of the best bonefishing flats on the planet. So what about Bimini? Well, Bimini can certainly say that it is one of the best islands in the Bahamas for bonefishing. On several recent charters, the catch counts were anywhere from 17 fish to 30 fish, one even weighing 14 pounds! That is just a couple of pounds short of the record 16.3 pound bone (also caught on Bimini) back in 1971.

June begins Bimini’s great summer fishing season. With the warmer weather and warmer water, the fish will be headed to deeper and cooler water during the middle of the day, so start early in the morning or plan to fish the late afternoon tides. Permit will still be abundant, as well as tarpon. Mutton snapper will be swarming and hungry for shrimp! Nearshore reef and bottom fishing will be great so that you have plenty to bring home for dinner. The weather with calmer winds will allow you to use lighter weight gear, just be sure to keep an eye to the sky for those afternoon thunder boomers that roll through in the summer time.
