Bimini Inshore Fishing Forecast – September 2012

There are still plenty of permit, barracuda and tarpon around and the mutton snapper bite has been particularly good of late.

We are finally starting to “turn the corner” in the Northern Bahamas and are heading into autumn. The bite through the summer months was outstanding despite the warm water temperatures. With the sun setting earlier and earlier the water will steadily begin to cool. This will cause the bones to venture further onto the shallows of the flats. You will see more tailing fish than what was the case over the last several months. There will tend to be lots of smaller schools of fish. Fishing the early mornings or late afternoons on the incoming tide is still the best time to hit the water. There are still plenty of permit, barracuda and tarpon around and the mutton snapper bite has been particularly good of late. Live bait, particularly crabs, will be the best for the bones. For barracuda, try a needlefish fly. For an alternative to the flats activity, trolling (slow) for grouper and bottom fishing for yellowtails has been very productive.

We look forward to your next visit to enjoy the wonderful fishing and hospitality of the Bimini Islands.
