Over the last several months, the waters surrounding Bimini have been warming and will reach peak temperature during the month of August. Like every “above water creature”, the bones will be seeking cooler temperatures. So here are a couple of thoughts to keep in mind. You will want to fish early morning and late in the day. Use the mid-day to enjoy some great conch salad and a cold “one”. Typically the fish will be in water 6 to 10 feet. They will however surface as a school to feed so don’t spend lots of time in the shallows. Should you observe “mudding” activity, you will know that they are bottom feeding and select your baits appropriately. Also seek to find areas where the water is flowing near the entrance to creeks. The schools will be smaller at this time of year but you will find the fish to generally be larger. There are permit to be found and for a diversion you may want to target tarpon. Nearshore fishing has produced good size amberjack and mutton snapper. All in all, August is a great month to enjoy the wonders and hospitality of Bimini. See you here soon!
