[dropcap]D[/dropcap]ecember is typically when the flats fishing gets into full swing. Unfortunately, December can be a very windy month. However, there are many locations where you can find some protection as the wind is usually from the north or northeast with the passage of cool/cold fronts. So using heavier gear is to your benefit as the fish may not always cooperate and be in these protected areas! Water temperature will continue to drop. As a result, the fish will be spending more time in the shallows during the mid-day when the sum is high. As always you will seek areas where the water has some movement as this is where they will be feeding. As the spawning season approaches, you will find the fish in larger schools than during the summer and early fall. Fish will still be averaging in the 6 –to- 8-pound range. There will still be plenty of tarpon, permit and jack as well. Shrimp and conch will be your best natural baits. Nearshore reef fishing will be very productive with plenty of grouper, snapper and muttonfish. We wish all of our readers and fans of Bimini a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year. And, we hope that you make a New Year’s resolution to visit Bimini in the coming year.
