Bimini will be the place to be this June for the avid flats fishermen. June is the beginning of great summer fishing. Recent trips have yielded great catches and the trend will continue.

Fish will generally be larger and in smaller schools, as is typical of this time of year. A little patience will be needed, but when you find them, they’ll be in the 8 to 10 pound range, with some a little larger.

Warmer weather means warmer water and the bones will be seeking the cooler waters along the edges of the flats and channels. Mornings with an incoming tide will be most productive, although late afternoon and early evening should not be overlooked. Permit will be plentiful and recent catches have been in the 30- to 40-pound range and they are hungry! If you’d like a change of pace, tarpon will be hanging in deeper water and are frequently seen in the marina basins. Nearshore reefs will produce muttonfish, amberjack, assorted snapper, barracuda and black grouper. Goggle-eyes, sardines, shrimp and cut conch will work well. Plan your trip this summer to the beautiful island of Bimini where fishing is legendary. You will not be disappointed!
