[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith Bimini’s close proximity to the South Florida mainland, the nearshore waters tend to cool more rapidly due to the increased frequency of cool fronts that begin making their way further down the Florida peninsular. The action on the flats has stayed consistently strong over the fall months. During mid-October there were days with anywhere from 10 to 20 catches in a morning or afternoon trip with most fish in the 5 to 7 pound range. As we move into November, bonefish will be getting solid. What this means is the fish will start averaging in the 8 to 10 pound (and larger) range! While I prefer natural baits (live or dead), artificials mimicking shrimp and crab work best, such as pink and brown combinations. With cooler weather, fishing all day is an option. Best tide is just after low when the water is the skinniest. As a diversion, there are some monster permit in the bays along with tarpon and barracuda. For reef fishing enthusiasts, the usual suspects (grouper, triggerfish yellowtail and snapper) will put some dinner on the table. Happy U.S. Thanksgiving to all. Why not spend the holiday in Bimini!
