Bimini Inshore Fishing Report and Forecast

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ummer is hot, hot, hot and so is the flats and near shore fishing in Bimini. Fishing has been great and there is no reason for it to change as we move into the middle of the summer months. Summer fishing means a few adjustments, such as planning to fish early mornings and evenings. Even the fish take a break during the middle of the day. You will find fish near moving water at the deeper edges of the channels and ledges. Because they will be in deeper water due to the warm water temperatures, you may want to use a heavier fly and give it a little time to drop through the water column. This will increase your catch ratios. Best natural bait choices would be shrimp and crab. The bones will be large (8- to 10-pounds) and in smaller schools. With typical calm days during the summer, sight-fishing will be at its best in Bimini’s “gin clear water”. There will be plenty of permit, tarpon and barracuda to bend your rod as well. Some permit have been pushing 40-pounds. Near shore fishing will produce some tasty triggerfish, strawberry grouper, yellowtail and more providing a great tasty dinner.
