As the winds from March subside, the fishing continues, like the weather, to heat up. Despite the heavy winds this March, fishing was great and April will be that much better. With wahoo still around, the mahi-mahi, yellowfin and billfish will be in abundance. Many don’t realize that there are tons of white marlin that run through Bimini just off the beach, heading north towards the Isaacs. Best bet on the whites is to pull small “dink” ballyhoo on light leader with the drag set as loosely as possible during the troll. For those targeting the billfish, try to stay in waters from 700 to 1700 feet and look for the ever moving eddies that form all along Bimini to Cat Cay. The dolphin will be in the waters from 300 feet and out, while the yellowfin will be mixed in both shallow and deep waters wherever you are marking bait.

Remember, Bimini is only 48 miles from Florida, so it’s an easy ride over, especially in the spring and summer months when the weather is calm and predictable. Tight lines everyone!
