Bimini Offshore Fishing Forecast – July 2011

Bimini is living up to its reputation as a legendary “big game fishing destination.”

July fishing in Bimini, known worldwide as a legendary “big game fishing destination,” should live up to its reputation and bring large blue marlin to its offshore waters. Tuna and dolphin will provide alternative fishing targets that will put a little meat on the table. My preferred baits this time of year would be lures for trolling, which will allow more ground to be covered. If I had to make a prediction, my colors of choice would be green, yellow and pink, black and purple, black and red, and pink and white color combinations for mid-to-late July. Trolling lures at 8.5 to 9 knots this time of year is the most productive. While a little slow for wahoo, don’t be surprised if you hook up with one of these speedsters.

Bottom fishing should be excellent when the wind lies down. Yelloweye snapper and queen snapper should be plentiful in 700 to 1000 feet of water. Bait of choice to catch your snapper is squid and barracuda chunks on circle hooks.

Catch em’ up!
