Indications tell me May will be awesome, as April was strong with wahoo and dolphin. A 67 pound wahoo marking one of the heaviest fish pulled into Bimini Big Game Club the first week of April. Also, April’s full moon will kick off the mutton snapper run with conch being the favorite bait. So with all these different species of fish showing up, you can expect May to be the Blast-Off Month for great summer fishing offshore.

The blue marlin hunt will be in full swing and I expect to see more days fishing in May. The last of the cold fronts have passed and the weather is still cool enough and conducive for the fish to be hungry and very active. Yellowtail fishing is also starting to heat up as one of our locals, Capt. Benjamin, came in with his share for a charter at Bimini Big Game Club. Keep in mind May is one of the most productive months with yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, blue marlin along with white marlin all competing for your baits.

Best bet, would be north of Bimini trolling the ledge, where you can come up with the Bimini Big Game Club Triple Crown – a blue marlin, yellowfin tuna and wahoo. Although you’ll also get into dolphin in the same mix along the same ledge, it’s not part of the Triple Crown.

May has to be the kickoff of some of the best months to fish Bimini. Don’t forget the Bimini Big Game Club’s Billfish Bonanza coming May 15. What better way to scout and get your crew honed in on that big blue, by getting here early and getting a few practice runs. Until Next Tide….Chase Your Dreams! Tight Lines!
