Bimini Offshore Fishing Forecast – November 2012

November in Bimini is one of the best times of the year to be here. The wahoo fishing is in full swing, as well as other offshore and reef fishing. We have had a few great days this year as early as September.

The best bet if you’re set up for it, is to troll weighted lures along the edge at 12 to 14 knots. Zig-zagging between 200 and 500 feet seems to work best. If you are not set up for high speed trolling that’s okay, you can still catch plenty of fish trolling around six to seven knots. I pull five lines; one planer rod, one diving plug, two weighted Bluewater Jag’s on the riggers, and a bridge pole. This spread covers a lot of different depths and multiple presentation types. Make sure to use wire leaders while targeting wahoo.

Other options this month is live baiting for sailfish. There is an abundant supply of live bait in the channel in Bimini so getting bait is easy. Using light leaders and circle hooks, you’re sure to have a great time fishing in around 650 feet. If you’re drifting for the sails and have room, make sure to bring plenty of squid and do a little deep dropping as well. This can be a great way to find new spots while waiting for the sailfish to bite. You will also catch a stray dolphin or two throughout the day.

Don’t forget the Wahoo Smackdown is November 15 through 17 at the Bimini Big Game Club Resort. If you are interested in fishing but don’t have a boat please let me know.
