Cedar Key Paddling – September Fishing Report
Ahhhh.“September,we meet again.” What will you have in store for us this year? If I were a betting man, I would say, that, that dreadful water conditions way south of us will be pushing a lot of fish in our direction, which means, while some of you knuckleheads choose to sit in a tree, and watch football, here in Cedar Key Florida, the bite of a life time could very well be going on. September and October are two of my favorite months here in Cedar Key, because its quiet, the kids are in school, and it hasn’t frozen up north yet, sending us our snowbirds. I cannot stress enough, that if you love Florida, nature, fishing, and peace and quiet, these two months will be your favorite here. As I write this, we are already having an absolute amazing redfish bite. We are hammering them on live pin fish, under a popper and a nice chunk of fresh mullet, or lady fish(poorman’s tarpon). Get these baits on the edges and points of our many oyster bars. If you do not get one within 15 minutes, MOVE and repeat. Do not be surprised if you hook up with a nice snook; every day more and more are swimming into our area, and they are big. Don’t forget about their sharp hill plate. Be prepared for them. so you do not just get to hook one up, and then watch it swim away. I hope this helps and I hope to see you at the shop. Swing on in for all the latest tips and tricks! One more thing, get those kids out on the water after school!
