Cedar Key Paddling
Hello everybody. I cannot believe how fast this year has been flying by already. I hope it has been a great one so far for everyone. September is usually one of Cedar Keys strongest months for redfish. The water temp is hopefully slowly going to start to drop, and that usually sets the bite on fire. The absolute best baits are going to be large fresh chunks of mullet. I prefer to use nothing but a Jim’s jig with a healthy chunk of fresh mullet or lady fish. Cast it a foot away from the oyster bar and let it sit on the bottom. The second and third best baits are typically a live pin fish and or a large minnow.
You can also fish these on the bottom, but I have had a lot of success using a 1/0 or 2/0 owner circle hook with about two foot of 20 lb. test floracarbon in my favorite color b52 bomber or cajun thunder. If you are in the right spot, it should not take long. If you have not gotten a bite in about 20 minutes tops. Move on to the next spot. I hope this helps and I hope you find the time to get these kids out and put them on some fish.
