Cedar Key Paddling

CEDAR KEY PADDLING – December Fishing Report

Hallelujah, we survived another year! Water temperatures are dropping, and pushing our redfish into the creeks.  I recommend two options, to get to the redfish. The first is by kayak, but please make sure that you have a high-flying flag so you can be seen over the marsh grasses by the airboat folks who cannot hear you or see you.  The other way to get in there, you guessed it, by airboat.  Once you find your way to the deeper holes in the creek, you can usually have a field day with the redfish by simply fishing a live shrimp or different types of tackle and bait. When you find them, they’re usually not alone, and you can catch multiple reds out of each hole.  Other than that, sheepshead are definitely coming in.  If you can find fiddler crabs, they is a great bait to catch sheepshead.  Another good bait is an oyster, if you can keep it on your hook. Make sure you have a very fine and sensitive tipped fishing pole, as most of us already know that fish barely move the rod when eating the bait. Typically, anywhere we have structure or dock poles in deeper spots, the sheepshead are there.  Also, this time of year, you usually can find some very nice in-slot trout.  We are still in love with the B-52 popper and live shrimp or multiple different colors of DOA Shad Plastics.  I hope this helps. I hope to see you out on the water.  Please make sure you get these kids out there fishing.

Daniel.  Please read your forecast.  Maybe you left some things out as I am having trouble understanding.
