How Bricks Made From Invasive Seaweed Clean Mexico’s Beaches

Millions of tons of sargassum wash up on beaches across North America every year. Exposure can lead to breathing problems, and it costs millions to clean it up. Now, one Mexican entrepreneur is building houses out of bricks made from the invasive species.

845-Pound Blue Earns $1.27 Million

An 845-pound blue marlin earned a combined purse of $1.27 million for the 54 Hatteras Dogs Bollocks during the 2024 Blue Marlin World Cup. Fishing out of the Cape Verde Islands, Stuart Simpson captained the winning vessel, with Ron Kawaja, founder of Pelagic Gear, on the rod for the winning catch. For the second year in a row, a new payout record was set during the one-day worldwide tournament.

New Limits for Georgia’s Unique Bass Species

Years ago, to raise awareness of the variety of fish and fisheries, the state began the Georgia Bass Slam, which encourages anglers to travel and catch at least five of the 10 species to receive official recognition. Recently, the state initiated new length and creel limits to protect these fish, some of which you can’t catch anywhere else in the world.
