Nebraska angler Alex “Flathead” Doty had a heck of a night on Oct. 1. Fishing a small Nebraska creek, he landed a rare 49-pound leucistic flathead catfish, and then a few hours later he caught a 72-pounder that is his personal best.

NOAA Shuts Down South Atlantic Gag Grouper

Recreational and commercial harvest of gag grouper in federal waters of the South Atlantic will close Oct. 23. Closing the fishery, which was scheduled to remain open through December, will devastate commercial and offshore charter captains on the Atlantic coast from North Carolina through Florida.

Short Gulf Gag Season Cut Short… Again!

Recreational harvest of gag grouper in the Gulf of Mexico will end early, on Oct. 19, in federal waters as well as in Florida state waters. The season, which was already shortened this year by a later starting date, has been whittled down to less than two months because NOAA Fisheries says too many gags are being caught.

Andrews, Holt, Iaconelli Inducted Into Bass Fishing Hall of Fame

With 275 people in attendance, including Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, Glen Andrews, Bruce Holt and Michael Iaconelli were inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of fame on Sept. 28 during a ceremony at the White River Conference Center in Springfield, Missouri.

D.A. Sea Wins 2025 Chub Cay Invitational

D.A. Sea, a 65 Paul Mann run by Capt. Mark Stephens, won this year’s Chub Cay Invitational Tournament. The members-only event was held last month. D.A. Sea released four blue marlin to take home first-place honors. The Invitational is hosted by the popular Chub Cay Resort & Marina Club, located at the southern tip of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.
