MARINA BAY: O’CONNELL’S ANSWER TO LAGUNA BEACH

A drive to the Cape on any weekend in the summer is always a two hour plus battle in traffic from the Boston area to the Bourne Bridge. On this particular Friday afternoon, dual car fires added a new element of stress to the mess. Many media members and partygoers including Julie Kahn, former Entercom big wig now working for Regan Communications, were stuck in the city until the O’Connell brothers flew to the rescue by donating their state of the art helicopter for the occasion.
The brothers offered to shuttle the guests from Granite Links in Quincy to the emerald links at Willowbend so that no one would miss the important weekend event.
“It was a thrilling ride,” said Kahn. “The journey took just about 20 minutes as we flew across the Cape Cod Canal, which was spectacular.”
The chopper made several runs back and forth bringing new guests to the party. Friday night’s event, which was sponsored by David Southworth, of Southworth Development and owner of Willowbend and PR guru George Regan, honored New York City Police Commis- sioner Bill Bratton and his wife, CBS legal eagle Rikki Klieman. Guests included Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe, CSI star Paul Guilfoyle, sports broadcaster Chris Collins and former boxing champ Kip Diggs.
Saturday’s event – Cape Cod Health- care’s Annual Summer Gala, was hosted by Klieman with guests including HGTV stars Chris Lambton and wife Peyton Wright, former majority leader Eric Cantor and noted philanthropist Ted Cutler. The gala raked in more than $225,000, the largest total ever for the annual event.
The O’Connell brothers never take credit for all the charitable work they do but they performed like flying nuns on behalf of Cape Cod Healthcare.
