[dropcap]J[/dropcap]uly is here that means RODEO TIME! The Alabama Deep Sea Rodeo is upon us, and that means hot weather and hot fishing. The fishing will continue to be hot while dodging pop up showers. The speckled trout should start moving to the north more than they have so far this summer and will continue to be more abundant.
In the rivers, Gilliard Island, Mobile River, etc…, they are seeking cooler temps throughout the hottest part of the day, and the bite will be best at day light and towards dusk. The flounder, white trout, and red fish will probably be following this pattern as well. Jack Crevalle are in the bay and around the anchored shrimp boats. The tarpon should be entering the southern part of the bay this month also. The tarpon is a fish that is extremely tough and fast when hooked these fish will put up a long battle. On light tackle and for that part a long battle on heavier gear as well they love mullet, pogeys (menhaden) even live shrimp. The silver king will eat shrimp from time to time with the right presentation, but mostly some type of fin fish in Mobile Bay.
Late in the evening or even at night, I personally like to fish at night. It’s cooler and far less people which equal more fish. The same method for fishing during the day also brings the same for night. Slip cork, Popping cork, Free lined, Live shrimp, Croakers, and Pogeys all work well. Most of the rigs are holding fish as well as most of your reefs. The Mobile River should be on fire with some larger trout soon. They just quite haven’t made it there because of all the bait in the bay. If you fish in the day, start looking for birds as we have caught fish under them already. If fishing at night be careful for stuff floating in the water when moving from your fishing spot to the next one.
