It’s June and the fishing is on fire. After a very good May, the fishing is only going to get better. All the rigs in the bay will be holding trout, redfish, flounder, and white trout. The best way I have found to catch these fish is a slip cork, or free lined with live bait (croakers, live shrimp, pogeys). I usually rig the slip cork with some type of swivel, usually a small one, and also a leader, just in case that trophy trout or big red fish grabs it. Also, you will lose less tackle when the Ladyfish (Skip Jacks) move in. The Jack Crevalle will also be abundant behind anchored shrimp boats. The flounder will also be around the rigs and rock jetties. Mobile Bay produces some real big flounder at times so go get them “flatties”. Now one of my favorite fish to go after is the infamous Black Fish (Tripletail). These fish will test even the most experienced anglers and are over 30 lbs. I’m looking forward to hunting these fish with some live shrimp. These fish will look like a trash bag floating on their side and usually can be found under something floating or even by them.
Good luck, be safe, we’ll see you on the water.
