From snapper to cobia, grouper to king mackerel, and black sea bass to mahimahi, the offshore fishing in July becomes a delicious catching recipe that resembles a multi-layered fish cake when anglers open their fish box at the end of a summer`s day. July`s “fish cake” can be constructed and cut, according to the offshore angler`s tastes and fishing strategy desires. Fishing strategies are given a free hand as offshore weather conditions become consistently calm and user friendly. Light winds and flat seas (during the morning hours), allow captain and crew to follow their instincts and hunt freely. Despite calm summer seas, fishing crews should leave the dock as early in the morning as possible in order to finish their fishing day by early afternoon before dangerous and threatening thunderstorms begin to move through the offshore zone. Summertime fishing, especially in July, is characterized by afternoon “squalls” that frequently possess lightning, strong and intense-gusty winds, and quickly building waves. Offshore fishing during this month requires all fisherman to stay abreast of weather forecasts and warnings and to always have a wary eye towards the sky around them. “The early bird usually gets the worm”, so get out there early, and “get the job done quick”!
Anglers can look forward to steady and consistent bottom fishing provided that water temperatures remain above 70 degrees. Snapper, grouper, and black sea bass will continue to populate the reefs from 50 to 180 feet. Fishing for these bottom dwellers is enhanced by the fact that the catch and keep season for most of these species remains open, and in full swing allowing angler`s to keep fish that meet the prescribed regulations and limits.
See you offshore!
