It’s spring, and that means that topwater bite is coming on strong in our lakes and warm water streams! Have you ever been curious about making your own poppers? We’ve had fun experimenting with some pre-made heads and making a different popper variations. Wapsi “Perfect Popper” packs as well as Surface Seducer Double Barrel popper bodies give a good starting point for creating your ultimate dry fly. The great thing about these pre-made heads is you can stay simple keeping the original color from the package or you can tap into your creative side. I’ve enjoyed adding variety to my popper patterns using Sharpie, spray paint and epoxy, while also varying my rubber leg, krystal flash, and marabou combinations. The options are endless.
