Hopefully the cooler than normal temperatures experience in the Exumas in September will continue into October and will bring an early arrival for the migratory species we all love to catch. With very little tropical storm activity affecting the Bahamas this season, the islands have once again dodged the big bullet (as of this forecast). Hopefully this will bring an early arrival for the wahoo and mahi-mahi this year. If you can arrange to be in Exuma this month, it will be time to do some high speed trolling. Normally, I don’t recommend high speed tactics but this is the time of year you need to give this technique a shot. You will need to cover a lot of “territory” to find the fish and also keep a sharp eye on the water temperature. Any change of more than a degree or two can make all the difference between fishing and catching. This won’t be so much about color changes covering lots of ground to find those subtle temperature changes. White marlin will possibly make an arrival in October as well so be ready. Bottom fishing will continue to be strong for snapper, grouper and all of your favorite reef dwellers. As always, please adhere to the fishing limits and regulation and protect our resources for the next generation.
The Exumas…so many islands and cays and so little time!
