Well, I hope you got your fill of turkey, because, now it’s time to fish!

There should be a small run of mahi his month. Nice sized fish last year (in the 20 pound class), so for this month I would run mahi rigs of blue and white, or green and yellow on the long rigger. Black down the center, way back! As I’ve told the mates over the years, put it back to where you think it’s “way back’ and then double it!

The wall is where you want to be this month, anywhere from 150 feet to the drop off, 600 feet and beyond. Wahoo won’t be so big this time of year, but should be plentiful, so you can rig accordingly. Fish in the 20 to 30 pound range fish will allow you to run some of that smaller tackle you have been wanting to put out but not quite sure about, and give the kids a chance to catch a fish of a lifetime. Let’s get the kids out and fishing so we know where they are!

Keep the lures dark, hooks sharp and under the water, that’s about all there is to keep in mind. But, if you’re not sure, there are a few rules to follow; black and purple, black and red, I will sometimes run a black and pink skirt and even a solid pink lure, really! It works.

Reef and deep dropping should be strong. A big reminder to boaters and cruisers, don’t even think about taking anything out of the Land and Sea Park! Trolling outside the park is also prohibited. The warden told me, “If we can see you, then you’re too close.” Check with updated regulations and boundaries when checking in at Customs and Immigration for more details.

See you out there!
