It shouldn’t be long now! Water temperatures should be falling soon if they haven’t already. If your headed out and the water temperature is still at 85 degrees plan on going deep. Down riggers or trolling weights will be a must. There may be wahoo around, but they won’t be looking to come into the warmer water. Anything that runs deep will be your only hope.

Temperatures should start falling this month to the mid-70s and the wahoo should be right along with it. Try a deep running “big lip” swimming plug such as a Rapala or anything similar, close to the boat. About 40 to 50 feet is good. Dark heavy trolling rigs with black/green, purple/black and blue/white should get the job done. Back to the ledge is where it’s at, 150 to 400 feet is a good starting point. BUT, as cooler currents are moving in there may be some interest offshore for cool eddies and weed lines that may hold some fish.

Wahoo have already arrived in San Salvador with solid 50 pounders coming in. So it shouldn’t be long now! The reef fishing should be getting better as well with grouper and snapper taking up residence. Deep drop fishing should continue to be strong from now through the winter; anywhere from 400 to 1200 feet will be solid producers.

‘Til next time.
