Bill Boes pedaled across the Gulf Stream from Bimini to Florida to raise awareness of House of Hope.

Stuart, Florida resident attempts world record

Bill Boes, 61, of Stuart, Florida would have completed a record setting journey to pedal a boat from Bimini, Bahamas to South Florida across the Gulf Stream had it not been for a violent thunderstorm that ended his journey in Pompano Beach, Florida just a few miles short of his goal. Departing Bimini Big Game Club on Saturday, August 13 at 3:52 a.m., Bill pedaled his 12-foot pedal boat Stella Mae for nearly 17 hours making steady progress west as the Gulf Stream current lifted him north. Companions in a sailboat following Boes decided to bring Boes aboard for safety, thus ending a world record attempt. Record not-withstanding, Boes’ goals were to raise awareness for human powered vehicles and money for the House of Hope, which provides food and services to the needy in Martin County, Florida. Congratulations Bill on your crossing effort.

CAM-Flahama and CAM-Greater Ft. Lauderdale create partnership

Continuing to recognize the close relationship between South Florida and the Islands of the Bahamas, Flahama co-publishers, Gary and Misti Guertin, and Greater Ft. Lauderdale co-publishers, Mack and Pat McKinney, have teamed to broaden the reach of their respective publications. Now, the Flahama and Greater Ft. Lauderdale editions of CAM will be sharing appropriate editorial content, as well as providing advertisers from each region the opportunity to specifically target these markets with their ads. What this means is advertisers may now increase their monthly impressions by being included in an additional 10,000 copies every month (a total of 20,000 magazines) for a nominal increase in cost.

St. Lucie County International Airport-“Gateway to the Islands” is Talkin’ Tourism

The popular weekly radio show Talkin’ Tourism, produced by Coastal Angler Magazine co-publishers Gary and Misti Guertin, recently broadcast live from the St. Lucie County International Airport (SLCIA) located in Fort Pierce, Florida. SLCIA is a significant ‘Gateway to the Islands,’ as it is an official U.S. point of entry and has a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility used heavily by boaters and pilots returning from The Bahamas. Both the airport’s terminal and U.S. Customs facilities will soon be remodeled to better accommodate increased traffic. For more information on this effort, check out the Talkin’ Tourism blog.
