Frankfort Fishing Report: June 2015

Big Lake_Frankfort

F ishing out of Frankfort continues to very productive for good numbers of lake trout, with more kings continuing to show up. When fishing the Frankfort area for trout, our normal set rigs include small-to-medium sized spin n glows, in green and chartreuse colors, behind 0 and 00 chrome, tin can, and white color dodgers. Additionally, small spoons such as Dreamweaver Super Slims, Silver Streak Mini Streaks in orange and copper backed patterns have been productive
on 1 to 5 colors of leadcore.

We typically will bounce bottom with our presentation in 35 to 60 feet of water, and will slow our speed down to around 1.8 to 2.0
mph, which will vary depending on conditions. Most of the area is sand bottom, so slightly bouncing your downriggers balls and divers will be the most effective presentation. Look for sudden drop-offs, such as the “Bank” directly straight out of Frankfort for good numbers of trout laying right on the bottom.

Additionally, fishing for kings in June brings tactics that involve spring set ups and simple presentations in the same general areas for trout, but in 80 to 120 feet of water and at 2.3 to 2.5mph. Clean spoons ran on 3 to 10 colors of leadcore in blue, green, and chartreuse patterns work well. Start with smaller regular sized Silver Streaks or Super Slims, along with a mixture of Flasher/Fly rigs, such as Dreamweaver 8” Spin Doctors, and Big Weenie 10” flashers paired with green and blue flies on divers.
