Grand Bahama Dive Forecast – January 2012

With the arrival of January, the water temperature has reached its lowest for the Northern Bahamas winter season. It is a statement, which gets most visitors smirking or laughing out loud thinking that 72 degree water is actually considered cold! This is the ideal temperature for the reef and it shows. The water is clear of all plankton summer bloom, the colors are vibrant and fish life busy. It is a good time to take a weekend trip and come over for a couple of days. Dive boats are generally not full and you may be lucky enough to find yourself sharing a boat with only a couple of other divers. Bring your thick wetsuit, your warm jacket and request any dive site you have heard of and you’re curious about. There are wonderful wrecks, between 100 feet and 40 feet, Theo’s, Sea Star, La Rose, Etheridge, Laura, Badger, and Pretender just to name a few. There are breathtaking views of deep solid reefs between 80 feet and 60 feet such as Caves, Little Hales’ Lair, Blair House and Plate Reef. There are sunlight medium and shallow sites, between 50 feet and 40 feet including Picasso’s Gallery, Angel’s Camp, and Photo Fantasy. On a trip to Grand Bahama Island you certainly have lots of dive sites to choose from.
