INSHORE

Spring is definitely in the air on Grand Bahama Island. Air temperatures will in the 75 to 80 degree range and water temperatures will begin to get to the 68 to 70 degree range. The bonefishing action will continue to improve with the warmer water. The bones will tend to increase in size, anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds. I suggest using an 8 weight rod with a 12 foot, 10 pound test leader and number four flies. My brother Tommy and I tie our own flies and call them the T&C Special. Other typical flats species such as permit, barracuda and shark will be cruising the flats as well. Shrimp and crab will also be effective if you prefer natural baits.

OFFSHORE

March is typically a windy month and offshore can get a little “sporty”. Nevertheless, there will still be a smattering of wahoo around. Don’t forget to “gear-up” for these speedsters as they will still have some size. Mahi-mahi are always in the mix for trolling enthusiasts as well as some yellowfin. Fishing the bottom will get you some dinner fare including mutton snapper, and strawberry grouper in good numbers. Best suggested bait is pilchards and squid. We will leave the lights on and the grill hot!
