April is a great time for inshore fishing, particularly on Grand Bahama. Many of the inshore fish are in schools and are spawning. This means the fish will be feeding aggressively. Every fisherman loves to fish for fish that are feeding! This is a good time of year for those anglers who do not have a specific species of fish in mind. It is a great opportunity for you to try your hand at a variety of the bottom fish that we have here in East Grand Bahama. I love to bone fish, but I also like to fish for other species, like mutton snapper. When fishing for mutton snapper I usually use a topwater plug or a surface lure drifting with the wind or current and cast along the channels or reefs. There are many fish that will strike a plug such as jack, grouper, snapper, barracuda, sharks, and many more. You can also use natural bait to catch those fish. However, if you decide to use a fly rod, suggest using a 10-weight rod with about 15-to-20 pound test leader.
