[dropcap]S[/dropcap]pring is here people and you know what happens in fish world come spring, there are little fish to be made. And so the flats are full of life and fish looking for mates. I think that’s why they call it spring. Even on the land, the trees are full of blossoms and new leaves and some even have on fruits. I love spring, it makes you feel lively. Now you may have been âfishingâ for most of this year, but it is time to do some catching. We did not have a cold winter this year, so the water temperature is great and this makes happy fish.
What we noticed here in east Great Bahama is that because the winter was so warm, many of the bonefish did not come out of the big schools and so we are already finding the larger schools of fish on the flats. We are even seeing some good groups of permit for those who would like to fish for other fish. The reef and channels are great for fishingâlots of muttons, yellowtails, jacks and barracudas to name a few. Gear up, letâs go fishing!
If you are a fly fisherman an 8-weight rod with a 12-pound test leader would be a good all around. For spin, a good casting rod with about ten-pound test would be fine.
