Good news for fishing the flats this month and that good news is that we have not had any strong cold fronts so far. This means that the water temperature is just right… not too cold and not too hot. This means that there’s a lot of happy fish out there and you know what this means… happy fish equals happy fishermen. Here in East Grand Bahama we know that it is not just about “the catching” but it is nice to do some catching. There is so much to fish for—bonefish, permit mutton snapper, barracuda, sharks, jacks, and grouper. I know we talk about fishing for bonefish and permit a lot but there is a secret that many fisherman don’t know. That secret is what fun it is to catch a barracuda on the flats! This is not like trolling for them offshore. I am talking about seeing the fish and casting a barracuda fly or tube and seeing the fish attack. When you get them hooked up, they do quite a few jumps. You must be on the look-out because one time we had one jump in the boat! They are all over the flats this time of the year here in east Grand Bahama so if you are looking for a great fishing adventure, check out East Grand Bahama.
