[dropcap]H[/dropcap]appy New Year everyone and I hope that this new year brings you joy and blessings. And, as you’re setting you goals for the year, I hope that more fishing is on your list. You can never do enough fishing!
January Is a great time for fishing in the Bahamas and here in Grand Bahama the fishing is always great. The water is not cold, so if you want to fish for bonefish, they are still high on the flats. There is lot of sea life on the flats—barracuda, jacks, permit and lately we have being seeing a few tarpon. I landed one and jumped one in December. There are always things to fish for; you don’t always have to fish for bonefish, but if this is what makes you happy, do it! I am a guide that will fish for almost anything that swims in these waters. Bonefish are so much fun to catch — they take a little more skill, but it’s all fun. Please don’t blow my cover, but I will fish with a fly rod, a spin rod or a deep drop rod. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad because you don’t use a fly rod. I’ve seen people do that, but that is very wrong. Do what brings you joy and only fish fly if you would like to. Would you believe I am saying this as a fly casting instructor? I am just a strong believer that fishing should relieve stress, not bring stress. Remember to keep the fun in the game!
