Grand Bahama Offshore Fishing Forecast – April 2012

With the waters warming up, the wahoo are biting further off the ledge of the wall. The bite is best on the incoming tide in deeper water, in the 400 to 500 foot range. Fast trolling a Banchee Supreme lure has been working good, and so has slow trolling horse ballyhoo with blue/black skirts. We’ve caught some very nice wahoo the past few days, 30 to 60 pounders, but with the water heating up they are becoming harder to find, and that will be the case as we move further into April.

Deep dropping off of Memory Rock still has been pulling up nice yellow eyes and silky snapper. I have been turned on to a new artificial deep drop lure called the Squid Dog by Ballyhood. It’s an artificial squid with a mini-light stick in it. I have been mixing these in along with cut bait on my deep drop rigs, and they have hooked some nice yellow eye. Schools of dolphin are coming into 300 feet of water, and blackfin tunas are all over the place on the ledge. They are all mostly little ones, between 3 and 10 pounds, but stay tuned for next month’s report. May is going to be awesome!

It’s a great time for fishing at West End, Grand Bahama…Fish On!
